Our Mission

CEF is a Bible-centered, worldwide organization composed of born-again believers whose purpose is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, disciple them in the Word of God, and establish them in a Bible believing church for Christian living.

Our History

Child Evangelism Fellowship was founded in 1937 by Rev. J. Irvin Overholtzer, a man with a God-given vision for boys and girls in need of the Savior. Today, this ministry has grown into the largest evangelistic outreach to children in the world. CEF is currently ministering in over 200 countries and in every state and province in North America to develop national and local workers and leaders for completing the mission of CEF.

J. Irvin Overholtzer came to trust in Jesus Christ later in life because he was overlooked as a child. Many thought that young children couldn't savingly believe and be regenerated. Mr. Overholtzer saw children's lives being changed and knew that his own life could have been different had he been given the opportunity to trust in Christ as a child. He began a "fellowship" of Christians working together with a vision and burden to share the message of Jesus Christ with boys and girls. This fellowship became Child Evangelism Fellowship.

CEF of the Greater Knoxville area began over 50 years ago. Many volunteers have been quietly and faithfully working since then to reach many children in our 10 county chapter area with the Gospel of Jesus.

More than 80 years of Evangelistic Outreach to Children

Our Vision for CEF Knoxville

The CEF of Tennessee, Knoxville Chapter includes Anderson, Blount, Cocke, Grainger, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Roane, Sevier and Union Counties. Curently, our local chapter is one of eight different CEF chapters in our state. Although CEF offers different ministries to children, our main focus is on the Good News Club (GNC) program that is held in public elementary schools. The GNC represents a unique opportunity to reach many children with the Gospel message. There are thousands of children in our CEF chapter area schools and statistics tell us that about 80% of them are "unchurched". They do not have any kind of biblical foundation and they have never heard the Good News of Jesus presented to them in a clear and biblical way.

The people involved with CEF of Knoxville have a vision to start many more Good News Clubs and reach all of these children in our area with the Gospel of Jesus. This local work to reach these children is completely a work of God on a grassroots level. CEF is a non-profit ministry that relies solely on the support of God's people. This means 100% of the financial support and volunteers are a direct result of the local efforts of concerned, burdened, and passionate people from within this local area. Are you one of them?

Our purpose is truly to change this world by reaching the children. The elementary schools across our region represent mission fields ripe for the harvest. Please pray Luke 10:2 with us that God continues to raise up workers and move His people to further His kingdom and glorify His Name.
